This page has moved: Semi and Recreational Vehicle Appraisals
Semis and Recreational Vehicles
In order for a bank to provide financing, or an insurance company to provide proper coverage of these vehicles, a value must be established. With Semis and Recreational vehicles, however, there are variables that don't enter into a normal appraisal.
Recreational vehicles are used in ways that are unique to them. Some are used mainly for long-distance driving, others used almost exclusively over rough terrain. Most are not used for months, yet some of these same vehicles may idle for hours at a time. With depreciation further complicating the picture, each unit stands alone and therefore must be inspected to determine value.
Semis, on the other hand, are made to last for hundreds and thousands of miles, with parts made to withstand constant use under extreme conditions. The conditions which the truck may have operated under will also affect its value - the truck may have run a steady New Jersey-Oakland route, or it may have labored through winters in the Minnesota-Montana area. Also, a few trips up and down the Alaska Highway to Fairbanks or between El Paso and the Yucatan Penninusla will add wear and tear to your average Semi. An appraiser will know what to look for in such cases.
Other vehicles which may need special forms of appraisal include construction vehicles and tow trucks.
